What Is A Fuel Pressure Regulator? How Does It Work In Your Car?
A fuel pressure regulator is an important device in a vehicle that serves the function of regulating a steady fuel pressure. It helps your vehicle not to emit excessive smoke or oil. It also increases the fuel mileage of your car. The fuel pressure regulator ensures that the fuel injection system supplies fuel to the car engine with a stable pressure. The pressure regulator has a spring inside it that pushes against the diaphragm.
This contributes greatly in the maintenance of the pressure inside the regulator. The manufacturer stipulates the tension of the spring. This is to get the preferred fuel pressure. The producer does this so that the fuel pump pumps enough pressure and fuel simultaneously to overcome the spring tension. The fuel return line is the one that leads the excess fuel sent back to the fuel tank. It is part of the fuel rail. The main function of the fuel rail is to carry fuel to the fuel injectors and to cold start the valve in the engine.
The fuel pressure regulator is a cylindrical metal object linked to the fuel rail. It is the final component of the engine section supplied with fuel. It has a void hose attached to it. It serves the function of providing the additional pressure against the spring. This space ensures that there is a reduced amount of pressure against the fuel coming inside the regulator when the vehicle is stationary. The fuel inflowing the regulator increases as soon as the vehicle accelerates.
This ensures that the fuel requirement in the engine serves accordingly. Fuel pressure regulators work properly to hinder low pressure in the engine compartment. You can check whether the fuel pressure regulator is functioning well or not. This is very easy, just by pinching the fuel return pipe. If the pressure does not rise, then it is faulty and vice versa. A fuel pressure injector is cost efficient since it injects a little more fuel than the stock injectors would normally inject.
It helps greatly since most recent fuel injected vehicles run a fuel pump in the tank hence running much more fuel than required to the fuel rail. Most of the cars, if not all, have a one to one fuel regulator. It utilizes a diaphragm to be in command of the pressure. There are also two other types of regulators and they are the adjustable regulator and the rising rate regulators commonly called fuel management unit (FMU's).
