Research: The aim of this study was to assess the potential benefit of DHA supplementation on a range of CHD risk factors in Scottish men with pre-existing hypertension and/or hypercholesterolemia. Fifty-six hypertensive and/or hypercholesterolemic men were initially enrolled in the study and randomly assigned to receive either 2 grams per day of DHA or 1 gram per day of olive oil. The oils were incorporated into bread rolls, which were supplied on alternate days for a total of 5 weeks. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure, heart rate and lipid proﬁles were measured at the end of the supplementation period.

Results: Of the 56 men that enrolled in the study, results from 38 of the men were available for analysis. Men given DHA-enriched bread rolls showed significant reductions in systolic (5.8%) and diastolic (3.7%) blood pressure as well as heart rate (7.5%) when compared to baseline. The olive oil group also demonstrated reductions in these parameters but these did not reach statistical significance. Analysis of serum lipid profiles also demonstrated beneficial results in the DHA supplemented group, with significant increases in HDL cholesterol (16.7%) and significant decreases in both the total cholesterol to HDL cholesterol ratio and the non-HDL cholesterol to HDL cholesterol ratio when compared to baseline. These beneficial changes in serum cholesterol composition were also demonstrated in the olive oil supplemented group.

A new study, conducted at the University of Indonesia, shows the olive leaf extract Benolea from Frutarom is as efficient as the widely used pharmaceutical Captopril in lowering elevated blood pressure levels. The company presented results during this year's Vitafoods in Geneva, Switzerland. According to the study, Benolea significantly reduces total cholesterol and plasma triglyceride levels, an effect which was not observed with the conventional drug.

The randomized, double-blind, double-dummy, active controlled study involved 232 participants aged 25 to 60 years with stage-1 hypertension (systolic blood pressure 140-159 mmHg, and/or diastolic blood pressure 90-99 mmHg) who were not taking any medication or were asked to stop it upon consent. A four-week run-in period without treatment was followed by eight weeks of treatment with either one 500 mg Benolea caplet or one 12.5 mg Captopril tablet, each taken twice a day. After two weeks, if participants showed no response to Captopril, they received a double dose of the drug.

At the end of the study, both Benolea and Captopril had clearly lowered systolic and diastolic blood pressure compared to baseline. The reduction of blood pressure in the natural treatment group with Benolea was comparable to the pharmaceutical group with Captopril.

With regards to lipid profile, Benolea significantly reduced total cholesterol and triglyceride levels, particularly in participants with high baseline triglyceride levels (>200 mg/dl). Triglycerides diminished by 53.13 mg/dl. Such positive effects were not observed in the Captopril group

I got a new dog and I'm allergic to him!!!:'(?

I just got a new dog , Oliver. He is perfect, All except for one thing , I'M ALLERGIC ! :'( Allergy stuff isnt helping me , I MIGHT bring him back to the shelter and get another dog, What bread of dogs are good with allergys? Are Golden retrivers good for people with allergys? I've had a border collie mix and a lab and i wasnt allergic to them! , My new dog sheds, the other ones, Princess and angel never, If golden retrivers arnt good with allergys, what dogs are?. And where would you get a certan bread of dog? the barly have golden retrivers at shelters.

Have you given the dog a bath? If you aren't allergic to your other dogs there's no logical reason you would be allergic to this dog. He may have something in his fur that isn't actually FROM him causing the problem. I'd give him bath and see if that helps. I bathed all my dogs when I first got them just to get the shelter cooties off of them.
