Stand mixer for pastry and bread making?
Does anyone have any recommendations for a good pastry and bread making?
I have heard that both theCuisnart and the Kitchenaid are okay at mediocre jobs but are not good at kneading tough dough and stuff.
My question to you all is-- Do i really need a mixer to knead dough? Or can I just use my hands?
Do you need to need dough for pastries? Is a stand mixer a necessity for pastries?
And please mention some excellent brand names-- I have heard Hobart is one of them.
There is no *need* for a machine at all, and kneading dough can be a great stress reliever, as well as plain old good exercise
...But...a mixer can speed up the process. Which mixer? Viking, Cuisinart, or Kitchen Aid all make reasonably decent mixers. Going by Consumer Reports, I'd say steer clear of Viking for reliability reasons. If you are thinking of getting serious about bread making, you may want to take a look at Bosch mixers: they are heavier duty than the previous mentions, and can make larger batches of dough.
